Sharing Wheels has always relied on volunteers to operate our nonprofit bicycle shop, and we always need volunteers.

We are currently developing some paid positions to be hired over the next few months: bicycle mechanic, customer service representative, and ultimately, shop manager.

Paid staff will enable us to:

  • Fix and sell more bikes
  • Expand shop hours
  • Create a more sustainable organization

Now Hiring Part-Time Bike Mechanic

Sharing Wheels Community Bike Shop is hiring one or two part-time bicycle mechanics to work on repairing and tuning used bicycles in our Everett shop. Schedule is flexible – the mechanic will have a key to the shop and be expected to work independently outside of regular shop hours.

First review of applications will take place June 1. Position(s) open until filled.

Hours & Compensation

This position will start at 6 – 10 hours per week and pays $11 to $15 an hour, depending on experience. The bike mechanic will be eligible to apply for future positions that include customer service and shop management, offering the possibility of expanded hours and responsibilities.

Bike Mechanic Job Description

The part-time bicycle mechanic will work on their own when the shop is closed, tracking hours and completed bikes. Mechanic will schedule their work in advance and coordinate their activities with our Shop Manager Kristi Knodell. Job performance will be evaluated by our board of directors based on production – preparing bikes for sale and completing customer tune-ups.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare used bicycles for sale, replacing and fixing parts as need to ensure safe operation
  • Perform designated repairs and tuneups on customer bikes
  • Able to work without supervision – self-motivated and trustworhy
  • Maintain a tidy shop workspace
  • Support other shop operations as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to provide quality, timely repair services to a variety of bicycles, with at least one year bike shop experience as a bike mechanic preferred
  • Self-directed, energetic, flexible and personable
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
