Thursday nights: Fix bikes for low income kids

Santa bike mechanic

Each fall, Sharing Wheels donates refurbished children’s bicycles to another Snohomish County non-profit, Christmas House. In 2015, more than 120 low income kids got a special bike for the holiday thanks to our volunteers.

Thursday Work Parties: Can you change a flat tire, clean off dirt, or tune-up a kids bike? Join us every Thursday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. to work on kids bikes for Christmas House. Volunteers of all abilities are welcome (kids can come with a supervising adult).

Kids Bike Swap – June 2017

Once a year in kids have the opportunity to trade in that bike they have outgrown and get a bike that fits them. Kids donate their old bike and receive a voucher for the value to be redeemed towards another bike Sharing Wheels volunteers have refurbished.

When you upgrade to a bigger or better bike, expect to pay some extra – $5 to $20. A free helmet comes with every bike – and we’ll make sure it fits!

Next June will be our 15th annual swap. It takes hundreds of volunteer hours and lots of community support to make the swap work. In 2016, more than 100 kids left with a bigger bike, and even more bikes came in as trades.

Kids Bike Work Parties – every spring

The Kids Bike Swap is made possible only by the work of our amazing volunteers. Join us for a work party on Tuesday nights April through June. All mechanical abilities are welcome. A willingness to learn and get greasy is all you need.
