At Sharing Wheels, we believe that kids of all ages – and adults – can benefit from a bicycle. Christmas House touches thousands of local, low income kids each year, so we try to fix up as many kids bikes as possible each fall.
Thanks to the hours of work and fun by many Sharing Wheels volunteers, we delivered 124 bikes to Christmas House in 2015. Thanks to BIKES Club of Snohomish County for donating $500 toward Christmas House expenses, and to Everett Downtown Storage for donating space to store kids bikes this fall as we repaired them.
Christmas House provides a helmet with every bike, and also purchases or gets donated new bikes for families to select. The Sharing Wheels bikes add variety and choices and help a few more families go home with the joy of two wheels (sometimes three!)
Kids Bike Swap – June 2017
Once a year in kids have the opportunity to trade in that bike they have outgrown and get a bike that fits them. Kids donate their old bike and receive a voucher for the value to be redeemed towards another bike Sharing Wheels volunteers have refurbished.
When you upgrade to a bigger or better bike, expect to pay some extra – $5 to $20. A free helmet comes with every bike – and we’ll make sure it fits!
Next June will be our 15th annual swap. It takes hundreds of volunteer hours and lots of community support to make the swap work. In 2016, more than 100 kids left with a bigger bike, and even more bikes came in as trades.
Kids Bike Work Parties – every spring
The Kids Bike Swap is made possible only by the work of our amazing volunteers. Join us for a work party on Tuesday nights April through June. All mechanical abilities are welcome. A willingness to learn and get greasy is all you need.
Monday Night Roller Night
During those cold dark winter months join us for an indoor workout. Bring your rollers and bike, and any music you might want to share. Riding on a bike trainer is also OK, and we will have extra trainers and rollers to try out for the uninitiated. We will start up again in the fall/winter 2016.
